OCB and 10th District
This past Saturday it was raining so we decided to go to a couple more breweries. We went to Old Colony Brewery in Whitman and 10th District in Abington. They’re pretty close to one another, about 5 minutes away so easy to do both in one day. We started off with 10th District (https://www.facebook.com/10thDistrictBrewing/). I’m so excited that this brewery now has an official taproom. When they first opened they only had growler fills. Now there are a few high top tables in front of the bar and then another room with a few more tables. It’s still a pretty small place with limited parking, but definitely worth a visit. Matt started with a flight with the American Pale Ale, IPA, Double IPA and Watermelon Wheat. I had a 12oz of the Watermelon Wheat. I like it as it doesn’t have that fake watermelon taste that so many beers have. During our visit they had the Sox/Yankees game on tv so we settled in to watch. Outside was Bombs and Dawgs, a food truck. Many of the other customers were partaking and they looked pretty good. We resisted the urge but then made our own chili cheese dogs when we got home. Wow, they were good. After we finished our first round, we figured we might as well try all the beers. So we got a flight to share with their Session, Tripel, Goes and ESB. Surprisingly I liked the “Goes” the best. It’s a sour, but doesn’t taste really sour like most I’ve tried. Matt liked it as well. We forgot our growler at home which was a bummer. There’s always next time.
Second stop for today was Old Colony Brewery (https://www.oldcolonybrewing.com). This is a great brewery with lots of choices. They’re located in a strip mall and we’ve always found ample parking. The brewery itself is one large open space with a nice bar. It usually smells really good in there, like hops, but today it stunk like nail polish remover. I guess that is a downfall of having a nail salon next door. They have a few TVs on the wall and some games to play if you’re interested. On today’s visit we each had 2 small samples. I had the Whitman Wheat and Toll House Stout. Both are yummy. Matt had the Farmhouse and Hoppy Patriot. As you can tell, I’m a wheat girl and he’s an IPA guy. Their beer is consistently good. Go check them out.
