The Cask
We went out this past Thursday…wait what? Thursday you say? For those of you who know me, our usual night out is Friday. But, it was the first pre season game for the Pats so we decided to go out to dinner and watch the game. We went to The Cask n Flagon (http://www.casknflagon.com) in Marshfield. The original is in Boston. This place has a million TVs. There are no bad seats if you want to catch a game, or two. On this particular night the Sox were also playing. We got to watch both simultaneously, score! We sat at the bar which was fairly busy when we got there around 8pm. We each got a beer to start while we checked out the menu. Neither of us was super hungry so we decided to share. We got a huge pretzel that came with three dipping sauces, cheese, mustard and buffalo. My favorite was the cheese. The pretzel was soft and warm, really good. Then we shared the fish tacos. This is one of our favorites when we come here. They give you three tacos. The fish is fried, but it’s light and flaky. There’s a slaw inside the tacos made with granny smith apples which is really different. I’ve never seen that anywhere else. On the side it comes with rice, beans and guac. We got fries instead of the rice and beans. They were delicious as usual. The bartenders were all friendly and attentive.
We’ve been here many times and the food is always good. I think we’ve tried most of the menu, burgers, salads, BBQ, steak tips, and pizza. I can’t speak to the pasta. That’s one thing I rarely eat out as I’m picky about my Italian food. We’ve also come here for brunch for mother’s day a few times. They do a good job. If you want an omelet you fill out a slip of paper with what you want in it. Then you can go to the buffet area that has lots of choices. There’s fresh fruit, blueberry french toast, home fries, bacon, scrambled eggs, carving station, pastries, etc. When your omelet is ready, they bring it to your table. This past Mother’s day I didn’t think the brunch was as good as it has been in the past, but it was still fine. The Cask is good for large groups as well which is nice. I’ve been here with over 10 people and there were no issues. It’s also easy to get to, right off the highway at exit 12. If you haven’t tried it, check it out. There’s something for everyone. I got a pic of the giant pretzel but forgot to take one of the fish tacos.
