Lack of BBQ on the South Shore
Last weekend I was really craving BBQ. I know we don’t live in NC, or Texas or some other place known for it’s BBQ. But, come on, there’s nothing around here. We used to drive to Quincy to go to Fire Flies which was very tasty. But, that closed years ago. And we were left with nothing…until…the Rivershed opened in Scituate. While their BBQ menu is limited, they do it right. On our most recent visit, Matt and I waited until two spots opened up at the bar. We didn’t have to wait long, probably about 10 minutes. We were greeted right away and given the beer menu. I like that they have local breweries on tap. I had a Devil’s Purse beer which was really good. The name is currently escaping me. Matt had one from Untold which is a brewery in Scituate. For our meals I got the pulled pork sandwich with fries and pickles. It was absolutely delicious and I ate every bite. I never clean my plate so you know it was good. Matt got the pulled pork tacos. They give you three with a side. He had the sweet potato fries instead of the rice for an extra $1.50 and also asked for a cup of coleslaw. He cleaned his plate too. They gave us a choice of 3 different sauces in squeeze bottles. I just had the regular bbq sauce. I think he tried them all. One was raspberry. The bartenders there are always nice. We see the same guys every time we go. There was no live music on this visit. Sometimes they do on Friday or Saturday nights. We watched the Sox kick the Yankees butt on TV. They have a few TVS all around the bar. Other things we’ve had here include burgers, shrimp tacos, fish tacos, salads, and the grown up sandwich. I’ve never had a bad meal. It’s a cute funky spot located right off the Driftway in Scituate.
